MediaTek Kompanio 1380 Announced : Aimed at Premium Chromebooks

The MediaTek Kompanio 1380, aimed at premium Chromebooks, has been announced. A new generation of MediaTek’s Kompanio chipset, intended for high-end Chromebooks, has been introduced. The Company 1380 is comparable to the preceding Kompanio 1300T in terms of features, although it lacks 5G connection. The CPU is made up of 4x Arm Cortex A78 big cores that can run at 3GHz and 4x Arm-Cortex-A55 efficiency cores that can run at 2GHz. The GPU is handled by the Arm Mali G57, which is a step up from the Mali G77 MC9 in the 1300T.

The new chip also has a MediaTek APU 3.0 with up to 16GB LPDDR4x RAM and support for eMMC, UFS 3.1, and NVMe. Kompany 1380 offers three distinct displays, with two panels capable of running at up to 4K at 60 frames per second and a 1440p model capable of running at 120 frames per second. PCI-Express Gen 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 are also supported.

Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5 are both supported by the gadget. The Acer Chromebook Spin 513, which was introduced last month, is the first device with the Kompanio 1380 chip to join the market.
